Procrastination is a thief of time
Procrastination
is very common among us. I am pretty sure that all of us, as a human being ever
commit procrastinate when doing our work, task and assignments. What is the
main reason we tend to be a procrastinate person? The answer is because of
laziness. I have been assigned to write this personal journal by my beloved
lecturer who teaches English Studies. I strongly agree with this undeniable
quote or we can say it as a fact. Why? First of all, have you ever been in a
condition where you postpone you work till the eleventh hour and at last, you
are not able to complete your task and cause you a great problem? If your
answer is yes, you have committed procrastination. How painful it can be when
we commit procrastination.
Then,
let’s move to a novel written by Chinua Achebe. Before I give my critical
comments about this, I just want to share with you something. When I first
heard about this author’s name, I feel that his name is quite interesting and I
keep mentioning his name. I know it is very funny. Back to our novel, for me I
feel that there is procrastination done by those Umuofian people. If you notice, the villagers do not take any
action to Ikemefuna as they do not know what kind of punishment he deserves.
They actually should take immediate action by having a meeting or any other
incentives. By procrastinate the punishment, Ikemefuna becomes very close to
Okonkwo’s family. Okonkwo, who fears of being said as a weak person, kills
Ikemefuna by himself. After the killing, we can see that the feeling
experienced by Okonkwo is quite strange and he looks depressed. He is very
close to Ikemefuna as the lad calls him ‘father’. The immediate action should
be taken before, not until they have grown a father-son feeling towards each
other.
Okay,
back to reality now, I am one of the persons who love to procrastinate my time.
For example, it can be seen straight away. I suppose to finish this personal
journal yesterday but instead making it done yesterday, I postpone it till today.
It is not good actually. There are a lot of things or works that we can do if
we manage our time wisely. Time management is very important here if we want to
succeed. Okay, I will give an example experienced by my friend. This is a real
story. We have been assigned a task to do and we have to complete within a
short period. Then, he waited till the eleventh hour to start the task and
unluckily, he had lost all the data that he had saved in his laptop. It was 3.00
am in the morning, and for the sake of the marks, he had to redo it again until
5.30 am in the morning. He did not have enough sleep and he got low marks for
the task. So, I hope all of us at least try our best to avoid procrastination
as it is a thief of time.
