COMMENT ON THE USES OF NON-BIODEGRADABLE PLASTIC BAGS IN MALAYSIA

I have come across to write about the uses of the plastic bags in Malaysia. Before this, I do not really care about this kind of issue as I do not know very much about the effects and do not bother to save our earth. But, today, I have gained a lot of information about the impact of using non-biodegradable plastic bags and how they can 'help' the earth to cry. Actually, plastic bags can cause a lot of negative effects for the living organisms.
First of all, plastic bags take thousand years to be decomposed and can we imagine how many years it will take for hundred of plastic bags? What will happen to the soil? Of course, the decomposition of these plastic bags will cause the soil to become unfertile. When the soil becomes unfertile, it is not suitable to plant any crops. To those who survive by selling these goods, they will experience loss. Can you see how this small action can lead to this consequence? If we, ourselves, feel responsible enough to keep this earth safe, we must ask ourselves on what we can do in order to help the mother earth to survive.
Plastic bags also can cause the marine life to be killed for example the tortoise. Why I say so? This is because according to an article, when a plastic bag is being thrown into the sea, it will look like a delicious jellyfish. So, they will eat the 'fake' jellyfish. Same goes to a platypus which has been reported to be dead just after it unintentionally eats a plastic bag.
In my opinion, the banning of the uses of the plastic bags in our country, Malaysia that has been done is not really effective because we are having only one day that requires us to not to use the plastic bag when we go for shopping. In addition, most of the customers are willing to pay for the plastic bags. So, as for me, the banning of the plastic bags should be done stricter by increasing the days of banning and prohibit the customers to buy the plastic bags on these days.
